Aitor Gaizka established his new label in 2008 to create THE SYMMETRY OF LOVE, his second feature film. This English-language rom-com was filmed entirely on location in London and premiered in the US and Canada (Alchemy [Millennium / Nu Image]) and Spain (Pecado Films) in 2011, later being released in the Czech Republic and Slovakia (Film Europe) in 2014. The film was selected for numerous international film festivals and won the BEST FILM Award at the Zaragoza Film Festival in Spain. It is available on various streaming platforms, including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Filmin, Google Play, Microsoft Store, Vudu, and Mubi, with its original soundtrack available on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play, and eMusic. A Contracorriente Films currently oversees international distribution, with sales in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, India, and Singapore.
Prior to founding Flea Market Pictures, Aitor Gaizka wrote, produced, and directed three award-winning short films. He received the LUIS BUÑUEL FILMMAKING AWARD at the 2003 Villa de Madrid Awards for his debut feature, ENTRE ABRIL Y JULIO, which also won BEST FILM at the Isla de La Palma International Film Festival. This film was released in Spanish theaters in November 2002, distributed by Sherlock Films, with DVD distribution by DeAPlaneta Home Entertainment and TV and VoD rights handled by A Contracorriente Films. It has been acquired by Netflix, TVE, Movistar, and various cable operators in Europe and America, and is included in the Spanish Cinema catalogue of Instituto Cervantes, available at over a dozen of its centers worldwide.

The debut of young filmmaker Aitor Gaizka is a delightful, well-dialogued romantic comedy, with a camera that knows when to stay still or move with clarity and naturalness. Add to this a well-crafted script that relies on the everyday lives of very “ordinary” characters, without particular brilliance, and though some of them (like Pilar Punzano’s character) insist on playing the role of demiurge, it is ultimately chance that determines the course of their lives. All this gives us the (pleasant) sensation of witnessing an exercise in a Rohmerian vein (among others, Conte d'automne comes to mind). A good teacher and a promising student.

Years ago, in one of those moments of inspiration that precede every discovery, I found a film that, without being ambitious, immediately seduced me. It was called Entre Abril y Julio, in capital letters and italics, directed by Aitor Gaizka and starring Javier Albalá (Julio) and Marina Seresesky (Abril). The love story between a radio presenter and a musicologist was nothing particularly special, yet it was thoroughly refreshing. Its premise, its tension, its actors themselves, everything about it was suggestive and appealing.
What most captivates me about finding such unpolished, unshaped gems is the chance to see the diamond within them emerge, timidly at first, then dazzlingly. I not only wrote about that title in one of my books; watching it also kept the memory of Albalá and Seresesky alive, a romantic duo in their own way, at the start of a decade that did not seem to foreshadow such crises, political changes, or climate disasters.
